Red Mountain Music Company History
Red Mountain Music Company began in the fall of 1998 as a non-auditioned choir - the Boulder City Community Chorus - organized for a single performance of Handel's "Messiah." The success of this event spurred the participants to become a permanent fixture with a performance schedule of two concerts a year. In July of 2002, in anticipation of the group's expansion, the Board of Directors voted to change the organization's name to the Red Mountain Music Company, at which time the Community Chorus was renamed the Red Mountain Choir. As resources became available, RMMC added the Red Mountain Youth Choir (October 2003), the Red Mountain Second Saturday Concert Series (January 2007), and the Red Mountain Music Camp (March 2007). The Second Saturday Concert Series and the Music Camp were discontinued in 2008 due to financial setbacks, staffing difficulties and enrollment issues. Additionally, all RMMC activity was suspended between December 2008 and October 2009 while budget concerns were addressed and a search for a new executive director, conductor and accompanist was undertaken. Plans were formulated to simplify programming, scale back production costs and recruit more volunteer help. Programming resumed with a Red Mountain Choir concert in March 2010 and a Red Mountain Youth Choir concert in April 2010. In January of 2014 the Youth Choir was discontinued due to diminishing numbers. RMMC then sponsored the Garrett Singing Club, composed of students from Garrett Middle School and conducted by Pamela Barlow, which participated in the Red Mountain Choir concerts in Spring 2014, Fall 2014 and Spring 2015. In Fall 2015, the Garrett Singing Club was replaced by select singers from Martha P. King Elementary, conducted by Lanette Coker, then the Garrett Show Choir was added in Fall 2022, conducted by Amanda Hallam.
